Home -> Blog -> Dell XPS “suspend bug”
Today I was doing some setup on my new Dell XPS 13 for work and for some reason it started suspending irregularly every 10 seconds or so. Sometimes it would resume immediately on its own; other times I would hit the power button to turn it back on. Nothing seemed to be wrong except that it suspended/resumed when it shouldn’t have. I rebooted, but the problem persisted. Worried that my new computer is starting to exhibit hardware bugs the morning before my first day of work, I unstack it from on top of my personal computer and turn to my (correctly functioning) personal Dell XPS 13 to research the problem. Five minutes later and I still haven’t found reports of similar problems, but it suddenly occurs to me that the bug hadn’t occurred on my work computer while I wasn’t touching it. Was I somehow triggering the lid sensor? No, wait. I wasn’t triggering the lid sensor, my personal computer nicely stacked beneath it with its own magnet and reed switch perfectly positioned in the same location were triggering the lid sensor. “Case closed”, it looks like my computer works fine.
